Research has been piling up over the last year on a sugar called isomaltose, or Palatinose, as it is commercially called.

Palatinose is a form of sucrose that is present in honey. Palatinose has a  low glycemic index and is absorbed is oxidized at a fairly slow rate. Compared to sucrose (or table sugar) Isomaltose is digested slower and produces blood sugar much slower than sucrose.

Studies with Isomaltose have shown that it improves triglyceride profile in your blood and improves body fat composition.  Further, it has been shown to have beneficial effects on metabolic syndrome.

Palatinose holds great promise as a sugar that delivers the sweetness of table sugar but the glycemic profile similar to oats.
