I have a friend doing the acai berry/cleanse together and she swears by it. She said that she can tell after 2 weeks that her belly is getting smaller. She isn't on any regular diet either, but said the pills make her feel full quicker.

Dear troll, you bring up a really good opportunity to once again point out how Acai Berry for weight loss is much more marketing hype than anything else.

The idea behind Acai Berry for weight loss is the idea that anti-oxidants promote weight loss.

The idea that anti-oxidants promote weight loss is false. Anti-oxidants in and of themselves do not directly promote weight loss.

The underlying idea behind anti-oxidants for weight loss is the idea that inflammation promotes weight gain. This is true. Inflammation does promote weight gain, primarily because inflammation changes how your body uses insulin.

Want to know what the primary cause of inflammation is? Sugar.

So if we want tackle inflammation as a cause of weight gain, guess where we have to start? That's correct, right back to good old sugar intake.

So does taking Acai Berry reduce the inflammation from eating too much sugar? Bad question. A much better question is "What is the best way to reduce diet induced inflammation?".

Acai Berry isn't even anywhere near your most effective anti-oxidant You would get better bang for your buck from melatonin or plain old vitamin C. If you really want to boost your anti-oxidant protection then consider that the most powerful anti oxidants available to the body are enzymes. Glutathione peroxidase and super oxide dimustase are tremendously more powerful as anti-oxidants that acai berry. This is the first place to start when thinking about fighting inflammation.

In the General Supplement discussion section there is a thread about Acai Berry that might be helpful. I think the consensus is that it is just hype with no real science behind it.
