I just recently rediscovered Pita bread. I had forgotten how good it was, and how useful it could be. I have been using it in the place of bread for things like sandwiches. You can put lunch meat in the pocket, or even better alternatives like tuna.

1 Pita is 160 calories and 5 grams of protein, but I tend to use only a half for a sandwich so you can cut that all in half making it a low calorie alternative to bread.

wheat pita bread is something that I enjoy eating. Portion size is a real issue and at the heart of many weight problems.

The Pocket Diet appears to be the brainchild of Kangaroo Brands who make... well... pita bread. Many food companies release their own diet plans. However instead of looking for evil marketing conspiracies it's more helpful to see what can be learned from this diet.

I am not familiar with Kangaroo brands or the pocket diet, but your point is well taken. I think Pita bread is a much better alternative than bread (especially white bread). At the very least, Pita bread is a tasty variety to change things up.

I didn't know that Pita bread is lower on calories and can actually be considered diet food! That's good news to me because I like its taste. Smile

Like everything, the devil is in the details. Not all Pita bread is created equally, so make sure you are checking the labels before buying. After all, there is a lot of great breads out there too that are low in calories, or high in protein. Again, you just have to read the labels to know what you are getting.

Pita breads are very good for our body. The extra fiber in this bread slows down the digestion releasing sugars into the bloodstream at a slower rate.

I much prefer wholemeal pit breads to the usual white ones. I often use a whole one and cram it full of salad leaves and tuna.

mmm, I haven't had pita bread in so long! I never knew it could be that low in calories, I always thought pita bread would be much more fattening than regular bread.

I'm already imagining all of the great stuff I can put inside them.

thanks for the tip!

So what kinds of things do you like stuffing in those pita bread pockets? Smile We've heard salads and tuna mentioned. What else?

I always used to put peanut butter and jelly in them when I was little. (pause) I was a strange child. Smile

You can put almost anything in a pita pocket. Traditionally, I like it with lunch meats to make a pita pocket sandwich. But, I also like it with just cheese. Kind of like cheese and crackers (but better). I also like putting in leftovers like stir fry, or BBQ meat.

A little hint, if you are going to put in something moist (like BBQ meat), then I usually double it up and put a pita in a pita so it doesn't turn into a big mess.

I am not a big fan of pita bread mainly because it is loaded with flour and unnecessary carbs

I love pita bread. I like to make a low fat egg salad and fill the pita with the egg salad and lettuce. It is such a great lunch and very filling.
