First!

Okay, so I read the article on stress and carbs. I'm really interested in this. My problem is I chronically pig out when I get home. It's gotten where I have to have my yogurt and granola before bed. I'm not sure if this is due to stress or what but it's a nightly craving that comes on at exactly the same time. What is this???

This is my problem as well. Any advice anyone has hear would be appreciated. I do great until about 9pm and then suffer from the munchies. Is there a way to combat this?

I think most of this is work related. I know I come home and take out my stress on food. Any solution that works I am up for.

I know that when I am stressed out I do get the munchies. I do try and eat healthy things like yogurt.

I sometimes get like that as well.In my case I notice it more after I go for a walk in the evening. We usually head for a walk after eating dinner and then by 9pm I'm ready for a bowl of cereal, oatmel, or something small to eat. I hate eating it but I don't go to bed intil late so at least I know it's getting digested well.

Carbs act like opiates by working on serotonin. An easy way to curb this is by using whey concentrate. It has the same effect, just via a different path. Whey Concentrate increases the ratio of Trytophan to certain aminos which act as serotonin precursors.

So a couple of shots of when in the afteroon and one when you get home go a long way toward taking the place of carbs in the evening.

Okay, I did the bigger breakfast thing you suggest in your article. That for sure made a difference. I still feel like I can't go to sleep until I get my granola fix at bedtime. Its totally compulsive. So what's the deal with this? Is there a way to knock this out? I'm like a granolaholic before bed.

Maybe working the yogurt and granola into your food for the day sometime earlier would help?
If you've had a little of it it might help stop the craving.

Stress can be a big problem. My dad use to over eat all the time especially when he would get upset. We took him for some stress counseling and it has worked for him. He does not tend to over eat as much now which has helped him lose weight.

Stress is my number one problem when it comes to eating and my life in general. Not that my life is so stressful but it's a part of the chronic anxiety that I have.

I used to smoke so now when I'm stressed out I nibble. It's terrible. I want something in my mouth all the time. I do take medication for anxiety and it's doing the best it can to help me. It doesn't stop my need to nibble, sip and chew. Rolling Eyes

Sometimes I think we all like to nibble a little bet stress or not, but sometimes we do not realize it is hurting us more than helping us. I'm on that list that is for sure.

I am definately a stress eater. That's why I have to keep only healthy foods in my house - otherwise I'd cheat.
