WHAT IT IS: Coleus Forskohlii is a perennial mint plant native to India. The root is used for medicinal purposes, which contains the chemical Forskolin.
HOW IT WORKS: Forskolin, the active ingredient in Coleus Forskohlii, activates the adenylate cyclase enzyme, increasing cAMP levels and a variety of other processes within about all of the cells in the body.
PRIMARY AFFECTS: Promotes weight loss, relieves depression, lowers blood pressure, treats cramping associated with Menstruation, muscles, and stomach problems, relieves allergies, increases lean body mass, treatment of asthma and glaucoma, anti-inflammatory and hypertension relief,
EFFECTIVE DOSAGE LEVEL: Standard dosage is about 50mg - 100mg of Coleus (containing around 15% Forskolin), 2 to 3 times a day.
SUPPLEMENT CONFLICTS: Should not be taken with anti-hypertensives (high blood pressure medication) and anticoagulants (blood thinners). Should not be taken by pregnant or breast-feeding women or by children.
SIDE EFFECTS: Some instances of tachycardia (rapid heart beat) and hypotension have been reported.
ADDITIONAL RESEARCH IN LONGEVITY: Coming from studies in China, 2 new labdane diterpene glycosides and one new eudesmane sesquiterpene were isolated from an extract of the whole plant, making it the first time the occurrence of glycosides derived from the kind of labdane diterpene in nature. Also, apparently applying a specially prepared form of Coleus to the eyes decreases the rick of glaucoma by relieving eye pressure, but it is not recommended to apply the whole herb. Coleus Forskohlii has also been theorized to increase metabolism dues to it's increase in the cellular levels of cAMP.
