The article says a lot but one thing that stood out to me was the fact that fat in the midsection the furthest from your body doesn't get the circulation and therefore the oxygen that other cells in your body get. Therefore energy metabolism in these cells gets broken. As it says, "the fat cells in the midsection stop using glucose and fat correctly and tend to easily store and create more fat."

One of the suggestions: "Dry Brush:
Gently take a dry brush and BRUSH your midsection fat problem areas gently for about 3 to 5 minutes. This might sound silly, until you notice that your entire midsection area is flushed and red with circulation. Remember, bad circulation is the problem in the midsection."

So what do you all think of this? Are these particular fat cells harder to lose and will something like brushing the fat help?

I have never heard of this! It makes total sense. You guys mention a lot of science backing this up. What is the science to this?

Also, I'm not clear on the brushing thing. The purpose is to increase circulation? How long would I have to do this before seeing results?

This is where the article is.
I'm not sure about the science of it, go read it yourself.

I'm not with the lookcut people, just one of the forum participants like you.

Hi Jadzi,

There have been several recent studies in this area. The mother of them all was in 2005 out of Royal Free Medical School in London, entitled

"Vasocrine" signalling from perivascular fat: a mechanism linking insulin resistance to vascular disease.[/b]

The idea was put forth that local fat deposits were tied to circulation impairment.

The most recent was last month (April) out of the Obesity Unit at the University of Liverpool in a study entitled

"Hypoxia in adipose tissue: a basis for the dysregulation of tissue function in obesity?"

This study and other recent ones seem to point to a couple of things - hypoxia of the tissue which promotes inflammation and breaks both energy metabolism and re uptake of fatty acids in the cell.

The groundbreaking idea, which I go into some detail in 'Free of Fat Forever, The LookCut Method' is that poor circulation and problem fat areas like the belly go together.

As for the brushing, our goal with this is to increase circulation. The trick is to do it in just prior to cardio and in conjuction with getting a pre cardio pump in the belly region.

K. I'll take your word for it. You didn't answer my other question though, how long would I have to do this before seeing results?

I don't know that I would look at it quite like that.

Think of it like this. Midsection fat often represents damaged fat cells that have a weight loss disadvantage compared to fat cells in other parts of the body. By increasing the circulation to those cells what we are trying to do is stop the disadvantage those damaged cells have.

Using the analogy of the ship taking on water, our first goal is to patch the hole so we stop taking on more water.

This is quite fascinating. I have the "pooch" that I just can't seem to get rid of. I also have a family history of diabetes. I've never before thought of the pooch as a kind of hole in my metabolism.

Where can I read more about this? I have access to a pretty large group of people that would be interested in this.

Is the damage to these cells permanent?
