A recent study from the Journal of Exercise Science indicates that resistance training with moderate intensity and explosive contractions produces greater energy expenditure than high intensity and slow contractions.

In simplest terms what this study means is that you expend the most calories when resistance training by combining a controllable level of intensity with a temped contraction vs. extreme intensity with a slow contraction.

The study has implications for weight loss and fat loss. More energy expended means greater caloric expenditure.

In a previous article, we highlighted exactly this, the need for intensity with tempo (or controlled velocity)
. You can read that article here.
